2023 Slate Set for Tulane Sailing
Feb 28, 2023 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University Sailing team is set to begin its title defense with a loaded spring 2023 campaign. After winning its first open fleet race national title since 1973 last spring, the Green Wave will compete in 13 regattas leading up to the national championship regattas this spring.
"We're very excited for our schedule this spring and can't wait to get after it," Head Coach Charles Higgins said. "We have a lot of opportunities for our whole roster to make an impact this spring, and that full team development will make all the difference by the time we get to the Championship stage of our season."
Tulane will split up its squad to open the spring with one home regatta and another on the road Saturday and Sunday, March 4-5. The Wave will host the Garner Tullis Open Team Race on Lake Pontchartrain while also competing in the Phoebe Corckran King Women's Team Race hosted by the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina.
The next weekend the Green Wave will be on the road again for the SMC Women's Team Race and the Bob Bavier Open Team Race March 11-12. Saint Mary's College of Maryland will host the SMC Women's Team Race at The James P. Muldoon River Center and The Teddy Turner Waterfront. The Wave will return to Charleston, South Carolina, for the Bob Bavier Open Team Race hosted by College of Charleston.
The Green Wave will complete the month of March with back-to-back weekends on the road for four different regattas. Tulane will first travel for the Navy Spring Women's Fleet Race hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy and the SMC Open Team Race hosted by St. Mary's College of Maryland March 18-19. On the final weekend of the month the Wave will race in the Szambecki Open Team Race hosted by Old Dominion and the Jen Harris Women's Team Race in Annapolis, Maryland.
On April 1-2 Tulane returns home to host the Nelson Roltsch Team Race on the waters of Lake Pontchartrain. During the same weekend the Wave will also race in the Dellenbaugh Women's Team Race hosted by Brown in Providence, Rhode Island.
Up next, the Green Wave will welcome its conference foes for the SEISA Team Race Championships April 15-16. The regatta will be held on Lake Pontchartrain. The Wave will also compete in the Truxton-Umsted Open Fleet Race hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy the same weekend.
Tulane will wrap up the regular season at the Boston Dinghy Cup Open Fleet Race hosted by M.I.T. in Cambridge, Massachusetts, April 22-23.
The ICSA Women's Team Race National Championships will be hosted by Stanford on April 29-30.
In May, the remaining ICSA National Championships will be hosted by Kings Point in Kings Point, New York. The ICSA Women's Fleet Race National Championship will be held from May 23-26 followed by the ICSA Open Team Race National Championship from May 27-29. The championship regattas will wrap up with the ICSA Open Fleet Race National Championship from May 30-June 2.
