
Hawaii’s Fast Start Stymies Wave

HONOLULU, HI – Hawaii's baseball team scored all of its runs in the third and fifth innings but that was more than enough as the Rainbows defeated Tulane 7-1 Saturday evening at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu.

The win gave the home team the series win and improved its record to 11-8. The Green Wave dropped to 6-17.

Randy Abshier (2-1) started on the mound for Hawaii and got the win with a superb outing. He allowed just one hit and two walks with eight strikeouts in six scoreless innings. In all, the Rainbows trio of pitchers fanned Tulane 12 times.

Chandler Welch (2-2) was the Green Wave's starter and took the loss. He gave up four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk.Â

Hawaii third baseman Kyson Donahue had the day's biggest moment when he blasted a grand slam to right in the third frame. He went 3-for-4 on the evening with two runs scored. Left fielder Ben Zeigler-Namoa also had three hits.

Tulane mustered just three hits and one of those was designated hitter Adam Ebling's infield single in the seventh that scored second baseman Chase Engelhard.

The final game of the series will start Sunday at 6:05 p.m. CT.
