Privateers Take Pelican Cup
Mar 30, 2023 | Baseball
Â
The Privateers improved to 14-11 overall with the win, while the Green Wave fell to 6-19.
Â
The visitors' Tod Gauthe (1-0) was one of nine pitchers to take the mound and was credited with the win. He struck out two batters in a clean bottom of the fourth inning.
Â
Tulane reliever Cristian Sanchez (0-5) got just one out, giving up three runs on three hits with one walk.
Â
For UNO, second baseman Tyler Bischke, first baseman Anthony Herron, Jr. and right fielder Mitchell Sanford all had three hits, with the latter two driving in three runs apiece. Bischke scored four times.
Â
For Tulane, first baseman Brady Marget and shortstop James Agabedis both posted two hits and a pair of RBI.
Â
After a first-inning, two-run homer by Privateers left fielder Tristan Moore, the Green Wave responded with a pair of Marget homers in the first and third frames, sandwiched around a solo shot to right by Agabedis, the first of his career. Agabedis then tacked on a run-scoring double down the left field line to plate second baseman Chase Engelhard to give the home team a 4-2 lead through three innings.
Â
The visitors did the rest of the damage though, scoring three runs in the fifth, five in the seventh, four in the eighth and once in the ninth for the game's final margin.
Â
On the mound, the Privateers fanned 15 Green Wave batters but both teams issued 10 walks apiece.
Â
Marget now has four home runs this season, one behind Jackson Linn's team-leading total of five.
