NEW ORLEANS – LSU, the nation's top-ranked baseball team, piled up 19 hits en route to an 11-5 win over host Tulane Tuesday evening on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Â
The Tigers improved to 27-5 overall, while the Green Wave fell to 9-24.
Â
Bryce Collins (1-0) was credited with the win, hurling two and two-thirds innings, allowing two strikeouts and two walks.Â
Â
Tulane's Jonah Wachter (1-3), one of 10 Green Wave pitchers on the evening, took the loss as he gave up three runs on six hits in one and one-third innings.
Â
For LSU, third baseman Tommy White and right fielder Brayden Jobert drove in three runs apiece, while left fielder Tre' Morgan, designated hitter Cade Beloso and first baseman Jared Jones all had three hits. Morgan, center fielder Dylan Crews and shortstop Jordan Thompson also scored two runs each.
Â
Tulane was led by third baseman Simon Baumgardt, who went 4-for-5 at the plate, with four RBI and two runs scored. He and first baseman Brady Marget also scored twice.
Â
Baumgardt put the Green Wave on top early with a run-scoring single to left in the top of the first inning and gave Tulane a 3-2 lead in the third when his two-run shot cleared the wall in center field. He knocked in the Olive and Blue's final run as well with a single to left in the bottom of the ninth.
Â
Left fielder Jackson Linn knocked in the other Tulane run with a single to right in the seventh.
Â
Marget doubled down the left field line in the top of the ninth for his team-leading ninth two-base knock of the season.
Â
Baumgardt's homer gave him seven for the season, tying him with Linn atop the team's long ball statistics.
Â
Linn and right fielder Jacob LaPrairie each posted stolen bases for the Green Wave, making the duo a combined 10-for-10 in that department this season.
Â
The Green Wave will now turn its attention to a weekend series with Wichita State at Turchin. Start times are 6 p.m. on Friday, 6 on Saturday and 12:30 on Sunday. Tulane Athletics will officially retire the No. 10 of former head coach Rick Jones in a ceremony prior to the start of Saturday's contest.
