Banks Comes up Big in Extra-Inning Tulane Victory
Apr 2, 2023 | Baseball
The win moved the Green Wave to 8-20 overall and 2-1 in the American Athletic Conference. The Tigers fell to 16-13 and 1-2 in the league.
Tulane's Brian Valigosky (2-0) picked up his second win in relief, working a perfect top of the 11th inning. Green Wave starter Ricky Castro carried a two-run lead into the seventh and finished that inning too. He exited after giving up four runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Memphis closer Dalton Kendrick (1-2) was hit with the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and no walks in two and two-thirds innings. Starter Seth Garner went six innings and yielded four runs on five hits with a strikeout and a walk. He also hit three batters.
Banks finished the game with four RBI, while designated hitter Brayden Morrow and second baseman James Agabedis posted two hits apiece. The latter, along with shortstop Gavin Schulz, scored twice.

The visitors put 13 hits on the board and three of them came off the bat of right fielder Austin Baker. First baseman Anthony Hansen and shortstop Will Spears contributed two. Hansen also had a pair of RBI, one of which came on a solo homer to left in the third.
Banks did some damage early as well as he answered a first-inning tally by Memphis with a sacrifice fly to center in the bottom of the second.
After Hansen's third-inning shot, the Green Wave came up with three runs in the bottom of the fourth on RBI by Agabedis, Banks and left fielder Brady Hebert to grab a 4-2 advantage. Hebert's hit was his team-leading seventh double of the season.
Memphis tied the contest at 4 with two runs in the seventh and went ahead on a run-scoring single to right by second baseman Jake Curtis in the top of the 11th. That set the stage for the heroics by Banks, which came after Tulane struck out, grounded out and Agabedis was plunked by a 2-1 offering from Kendrick.
Tulane has a quick turnaround as it is back in action at Louisiana on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
