TAMPA, FL – Tulane has its first American Athletic Conference road series of the 2023 campaign this week when it travels to Tampa for a Thursday-Friday-Saturday slate against USF.
The Green Wave comes into the game at 8-21 overall, while the Bulls sit at 12-18. Both teams are 2-1 in conference play.
SCOUTING THE BULLS
Shortstop Eric Snow paces the team with a .337 batting average but first baseman Daniel Cantu is, far and away, the team's offensive leader. He shows the way in OPS (.971), hits (39), doubles (10), home runs (6), RBI (26), total bases (69) and slugging percentage (.570). Second baseman John Montes is on top in runs scored (22) and has also hit six homers. Center fielder Bobby Boser tops the list in on-base percentage (.412) and stolen bases (3).
Â
On the mound, Hunter Mink, Ethan Brown and Jack Cebert drew the starting nods against UCF last weekend. Mink and Brown both picked up wins, combining to hurl 13 and two-thirds scoreless innings against the Knights. Brown was particularly dominant, striking out 12 and walking just one. Riley Skeen picked up both saves, recording eight outs in the process. He surrendered just two hits.
Â
The Bulls dropped a 5-4 decision at home to North Florida on Tuesday.
Â
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE GREEN WAVE
Louisiana center fielder Heath Hood scored on a Tulane wild pitch to give the host Ragin' Cajuns an 8-7 walkoff victory Tuesday evening at Russo Park in Lafayette.Â
Â
Hood slid into home just ahead of the tag by Green Wave pitcher Michael Fowler, though the play was reviewed by the umpiring crew. The original call was then upheld.
Â
That moment came on the heels of a stirring rally by the visitors, which saw them tie the game at 7-apiece with six runs in the top half of the ninth inning.
Â
Ragin' Cajuns reliever Ben Tate (1-1) was given the win after he got the last Green Wave out. Tate gave up one hit and was responsible for the tying run.
Â
Tulane's Billy Price (0-1) was tagged with the loss, after he allowed a run on two hits.
Â
A combined 16 pitchers took the mound between both teams.Â
