Baseball Earns ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award For 10th Straight Season

GREENSBORO, NC – Tulane baseball has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association's (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award list for the 10th consecutive season, the organization recently announced. This prestigious award recognizes ABCA member programs across all levels of high school and college baseball that achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the 2025-26 academic year.

Tulane is one of only 11 schools nationwide to earn this honor each of the past ten seasons, highlighting the program's consistent commitment to academic excellence.

This year, nearly 500 college programs and 320 high school programs received recognition for their outstanding academic achievements.

Criteria for the Award include:

The team must be a high school or collegiate program.
The head coach must be a current ABCA member.
The team must have maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 during the 2025-26 academic year.

The ABCA has a long-standing tradition of recognizing excellence in coaching and student-athlete achievement. Established in 1949, the ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are among the nation's oldest and most respected awards in amateur baseball. The organization's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Teams, Coaches of the Year awards at regional and national levels, and other honors such as induction into the ABCA Hall of Fame and the prestigious Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.

In the 2026 season, Tulane finished with a 25-31 record, including a 10-17 mark in league play. The Green Wave saw notable individual achievements, including an All-Conference selection for Jason Wachs, nine weekly honors from the league office, and five College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selections: pitcher Trey Cehajic, pitcher Sam Larson, first baseman Trent Liolios, pitcher Jake Toporek, and pitcher Blaise Wilcenski.

The team's season culminated with Larson being drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 16th round (464th overall pick) of the 2026 MLB Draft. Larson's selection marks Tulane's 139th player drafted in the program's storied history. Over the past three seasons, Tulane has had eight players drafted, with at least one player selected in each of the last 15 years – the longest current streak in the American Conference. The Green Wave have also seen a pitcher drafted in six consecutive drafts.

Larson is the third Tulane player ever selected by the Colorado Rockies, following right-handed pitcher Tyler Hoffman (17th round, 2022) and infielder Michael Johns (19th round, 1997).
