Apr 8, 2023 | Women's Tennis
TAMPA, FL – The Tulane women's tennis team captured the doubles point and won at least one set in five of the six singles matches, but it wasn't enough as host USF downed the Green Wave 4-3 Saturday afternoon in Tampa.
The Bulls improved to 13-6 overall, while Tulane fell to 7-10.
After dropping the No. 2 doubles match, the Olive and Blue responded with a 6-3 win at No. 1 by Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell and clinched the point via a 7-5 victory at No. 3 by Kristen Borland and Brooke Theis.
The Wave then saw initial success in singles, winning the first set at Nos. 1, 2 and 4, but the Bulls fought back and got triumphs in all three of those matches. They also captured a straight set win at No. 3.
Theis had a comeback herself to register a singles point with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6. Jiayun Zhu trailed 3-4 in the third set at No. 5, but was credited with the win after her opponent, Cilona Walsh, retired.
The team closes out the regular season on Wednesday with a noon doubleheader against Alcorn State at City Park.
