Tulane Baseball Headed to Baton Rouge Regional
May 29, 2023 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team is headed to the Baton Rouge Regional, the NCAA selection committee announced this morning.
Â
The Green Wave (19-40), the regional's No. 4 seed, will take on the top seed, LSU, at 2 p.m. in a game that will be carried by ESPNU. The Tigers are the No. 5 national seed.
Â
Oregon State (39-18) will be the regional's No. 2 seed and will face the No. 3 seed, Sam Houston (38-23), at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
Â
Tulane had a storybook week in Clearwater, Florida as it captured the 2023 American Athletic Conference Tournament title with an 8-6 win over East Carolina. The Green Wave came in as the bracket's No. 7 seed and became the lowest seed to ever win the AAC Tourney. The trip to Baton Rouge will be Tulane's 22nd all-time appearance at an NCAA Regional and its first since 2016.
Â
The Tigers went 1-2 at the Southeastern Conference Tournament in Hoover, Alabama, entering as the bracket's No. 3 seed. LSU defeated No. 6 South Carolina (10-3) but dropped games against No. 6 Arkansas and No. 10 Texas A&M, both by 5-4 scores.
Â
The Beavers lost both of their games in the Pac-12 Tournament, coming in as the bracket's No. 2 seed. They dropped a 13-12 slugfest to No. 8 Arizona and then fell 14-10 to No. 5 Arizona State.
Â
The second-seeded Bearkats had to win four consecutive elimination games with back-to-back doubleheaders in the WAC Tournament to advance to the regional. Sam Houston's offense exploded for 72 runs in wins over fourth-seeded Abilene Christian, WAC regular season champion Grand Canyon and third seeded Utah Valley. After eliminating the Antelopes with a 22-8 run-rule victory, the Kats had to beat the previously undefeated Wolverines twice to win the tournament. Sam Houston stayed alive with a 12-10 victory then pummeled Utah Valley 21-1 in the winner-take-all championship game.
Â
Tulane Athletics does not have any tickets available for sale for this event, as all must be purchased directly from LSU. If tickets are available following sales to LSU's season ticket holders, the general public sale for All-Session regional tickets will begin Thursday at 9 a.m. If available, Individual-Session regional tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. on Friday.
