
Cross Country Takes Home Five LSWA Honors

Lafayette, Louisiana – The Tulane cross country program earned a total of five honors, including pair of the men's specialty awards, in the recently released 2022 Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams.
Graduate student Bradley Makuvire was voted the LSWA Men's Co-Runner of the Year. He also earned a place on the 2022 LSWA Men's Cross Country Team with his personal-best 8K time of 23:25.5. The time was achieved in his victory at the prestigious Arturo Barrios Invitational and was also the best time in the state during the 2022 cross country season. Additionally, Makuvire placed fourth at the AAC Cross Country Championships with his time of 24:03.4 to earn All-AAC honors for the first time in his Tulane running career. He also qualified and ran a personal-best 10K time of 30:42 at the South Central Region and competed at NCAA Cross Country Championships. He placed in the top-10 in five of the six races he competed in during the 2022 campaign. Makuvire was also honored with a place on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team and recognized as an USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic Athlete.
Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Adrian Myers was voted the LSWA Men's Co-Coach of the Year. He aided the men's program to a fifth-place finish at the AAC Championships with the squad having a pair of All-AAC performers in Makuvire and Aaron Gilliam. Makuvire would go on to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships based on finishing 10th at the South Region. The women's cross country program earned fourth place at the league's championship meet with Mackenzie Callahan earning an individual All-AAC nod.
Callahan also was recognized individually by the organization with a place on the LSWA Women's Cross Country Team. Her 6k time of 20:51.4, achieved at the South Central Region, was the fourth-best in the state during the fall of 2022. Among her other accolades from cross country season was earning a place on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team and being recognized as an USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic Athlete.
Graduate student Evans Kipchumba also was recognized by the LSWA with a place on their Men's Cross Country Team. His career-best 8K time of 24.13.5 achieved at the Arturo Barrios Invitational ranked him fourth overall in the state. He also competed at the South Central Region Cross Country Championship and finished with a 31:24.5 in the 10k. Additionally, Kipchumba was also recognized following cross country season as an USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic Athlete.
