Tulane Wins ABCA Academic Excellence Award
Jul 28, 2023 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team continued its successful summer as it earned the 2022-23 Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) this week.
Â
The Green Wave is one of only 11 teams in Division I to receive the honor for seven consecutive years. Last season, the team's GPA was 3.187.Â
Â
The Green Wave is coming off a fantastic finish to its 2023 campaign, one that saw the program roll through the AAC Tournament in Clearwater, Florida en route to a berth in the Baton Rouge Regional. Outfielder Teo Banks was named the tourney's Most Outstanding Player for his efforts and was joined on the All-Tournament team by pitcher Dylan Carmouche, shortstop Gavin Schulz and designated hitter Brennan Lambert. Carmouche was then selected in the 15th Round of this month's Major League Draft by the San Francisco Giants.
Â
"I'm so proud of the work our student-athletes put into their academic endeavors to earn this award," said Green Wave head coach Jay Uhlman. "Their achievements would not be possible without recognizing the incredible dedication and effort of our academic advisor, Wendy LeBlanc. We are fortunate to have her as a part of our program. Tulane Baseball is proud to have a collection of young men who truly encompass the meaning of the term 'student-athlete' and represent our program with distinction."
Â
Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2022-23 academic year.
Â
The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
