Cross Country Releases 2023 Schedule
Jul 28, 2023 | Cross Country
New Orleans – The Tulane University 2023 cross country schedule is officially set, with the Green Wave competing in five regular season meets on four dates this fall, Director of Cross Country / Track & Field Adrian Myers announced on Friday.
"We are very excited about what this upcoming season could bring for such a talented group that's been assembled," Coach Myers explained. "With all the moving pieces coming to Uptown from all over the U.S. and around the world, it's important that we set a schedule that allows us to grow into the program. Having talent is one thing but seeing who can rise up and elevate will most benefit from our schedule. The days of Tulane being unnoticed and unmentioned are over. We expect a slow start but to build momentum through the fall. The ultimate objective is that we are attaining peak performance when it matters most, during the championship season in late October and early November. Our conference championship is national class at the top end now with the addition of some new programs, plus the historical national presence from Tulsa. We expect a real dog fight for the AAC title for both genders which will have us ready to race for an NCAA national championship bid at the NCAA Regional in November."
The Olive and Blue will open its season on Friday, Sept. 1, competing down the road in UNO Opener at Lake Oaks Park.
Tulane then heads to Huntsville, Alabama to compete in the Southern Showcase hosted by Jacksonville State on Friday, Sept. 15.
The program competes in a pair of meets on Friday, Sept. 29, with the program sending squads to the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas and to the Joe Piane Invitational in South Bend, Indiana.
The Green Wave wrap up the regular season with a trip to College Station, Texas for the Atruro Barrios Invitational on Friday, Oct. 13. Postseason action begins on Saturday, Oct. 28, in Greenville, N.C. with the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championships at Overton's Lake Kristi. The NCAA South Central Regional is set to be hosted at the University of Arkansas at the Agri Park Cross Country Course on Friday, Nov. 13.
The NCAA Cross Country Championships will be held the following week on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Virginia near the campus of the University of Virginia
"We have one weekend with options dependent on how our growth and trajectory as a program has come along," Coach Myers stated. "The weekend of Arkansas' Chile Pepper Invitational and the Notre Dame Piane Invitational. We will put our men's and women's teams together or split squads in the best position to be successful both that weekend and potentially on the national level down the road. This schedule gives us a great chance to show that the work put in over the past two years will bear fruit. Our Green Wave Cross Country program is trending at a parabolic rate and this fall schedule has us very excited to get them rolling back on campus in August."
