Volleyball Sweeps UTSA in Texas Road Match

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane Green Wave secured their second conference victory tonight after shutting out the University of Texas San Antonio on the road.Â
The Green Wave controlled the first set through, winning comfortably 25-18. Tulane came from behind in the second to steal the set 25-23, then finished the match with a decisive third set, closing it out with a final tally of 25-22.Â
Sophomore Avery Burks led the offensive effort again, leaving 11 kills against the Roadrunners. Sami Jacobs followed with 9 kills as well as two service aces.Â
Jordan White hit a stunning .700, having 7 total kills from 10 attempts, and contributed 5 block assists.Â
Ava Derbes was a force against UTSA, hitting .353 from 7 kills on 17 attempts and putting up five block assists of her own. Sabrina Skyers hit .444 with 5 kills and had three block assists, putting her at 54 for the season.Â
Freshman-on-the-rise Dayla Ortiz dug 12 receptions, while Agata Beksha landed five kills against the Roadrunners.Â
Next, the Green Wave will host the East Carolina University on Friday, Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
