Volleyball Triumphs Over ECU in Five-Set Thriller

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane Volleyball defeated East Carolina University after a tight match, clinching the win after an intense fifth set and improving their conference record to 3-3. Â
Tulane opened the match with a distinctive win in the first set, toppling the Pirates 25-20. The match featured some of the longest rallies the Green Wave has seen all season, yet they dropped the second set 25-15 and the third 25-18. The Green Wave came back in the fourth, however, surviving with a dominant score of 25-18. In the fifth, the Wave won eight of the match's nine final points to vanquish ECU's lead, coming out on top 15-13.Â
Sami Jacobs led Tulane's offense, delivering 14 kills alongside three service aces, putting her atop the conference rankings with 28 total aces for the season. Sabrina Skyers played a phenomenal match, hitting a staggering .500 with 11 kills, and landed the final blow against the Pirates. She also logged five block assists, giving her the most total blocks of any player in the conference with 73.Â
Avery Burks provided eight kills and a team-leading 27 receptions, while Jordan White gave five block assists and seven kills. White is ranked ninth in the AAC for hitting percentage at .308, while Skyers is sixth with .342. Agata Beksha also provided seven kills and five block assists
Freshman Dayla Ortiz kept the ball alive, digging 23 receptions and giving two assists. Sophomore Zoe Rachow is on the road to 1000 career assists; she set 24 against ECU to bring her to 767.Â
Next up, the Green Wave visit the University of Memphis on Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. before heading to the University of Alabama Birmingham Oct. 20 at 1 p.m.
