Green Wave Hosts Alcorn State Monday Night

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball will look to start 3-0 for the third consecutive season as it welcomes Alcorn State inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse on Monday night. The Green Wave has started each of the past two seasons and four of its five seasons under Head Coach Ron Hunter with a 3-0 record.

The game between the Green Wave and the Braves is set to tipoff at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 106.1 The Ticket and Heaven 106.7 with the voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the fifth all-time regular season meeting between Tulane and Alcorn State with the Green Wave leading the series 4-0 including 2-0 under Coach Hunter. All four meetings between Tulane and the Braves have been played in New Orleans with the Wave winning by an average of 22.5 points. In the last matchup the Green Wave won 85-64 on December 4, 2021.

In its last time out, Tulane powered past Louisiana-Monroe 80-64 to open the season 2-0 for the third consecutive season and the fifth time under Head Coach Ron Hunter. The Green Wave was paced by 41 combined points from Rowan Brumbaugh and Kaleb Banks. Brumbaugh tallied a game-high 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting including a career-high six made threes while Banks added his second straight double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Through the first week of the season the Green Wave has excelled on the defensive end of the floor. Tulane ranks in the top three of the American Athletic Conference in four defensive categories including leading the conference in field goal percentage defense at 27.6 percent which ranks third nationally. The Wave is also top three in the league in scoring defense, three-point percentage defense, and blocks.

Alcorn State enters the matchup with an 0-3 record after falling 62-56 at Xavier University of Louisiana on Saturday. The Braves are led by Jalyk Gaines-Wyatt at 10.3 points per game on 32 percent shooting from the field.

After three games this season Alcorn State is averaging 53.7 points per game and has been outscored by its opponents 263-161. The Braves were selected to finish fifth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference after landing second in the league last season.

Following the matchup with Alcorn State, Tulane will hit the road for the first time this season traveling to Greenville, South Carolina, to face Furman. The game between the Green Wave and the Paladins is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
