Green Wave Rolls Past Alcorn State 84-51
Nov 11, 2024 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – A stellar shooting night from beyond the arc paced Tulane men's basketball in its 84-51 win over Alcorn State Monday night inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave shot 42.9 percent from downtown draining 15 total three-pointers as a team.
With the win, Tulane improved to 3-0 on the season marking the third straight year the Wave has started 3-0 and the fifth time in six seasons under Head Coach Ron Hunter. The Green Wave also improved to 5-0 all-time against the Braves including 3-0 under Coach Hunter.
Kaleb Banks led the charge for Tulane with a career high 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting. The junior forward also knocked down a career best five three-pointers while also adding a team-high seven rebounds. He has now scored in double figures in each of his first three games in a Green Wave uniform.
The only other player in double figures for the Wave was freshman Kam Williams who finished the night with 13 points, four rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. Eight other players for Tulane also found the scoring column including Rowan Brumbaugh, Mari Jordan, and Asher Woods each tallied nine points. Junior transfer Michael Eley and freshman KJ Greene also registered their first points of the season as Eley posted seven points and Greene added two.
As a team the Green Wave shot 45.8 percent (27-59) from the field, 42.9 (15-35) percent from beyond the arc, and 100 percent (15-15) from the free throw line. The performance from the charity stripe marks the first time Tulane has made all its free throws with at least 15 attempts since December 1, 2007, against Syracuse (15-15).
Tulane opened the game with a barrage of three-pointers hitting six shots from downtown in the first eight minutes to build a 22-6 lead. The Green Wave continued to build on its advantage throughout the first half extending its lead to 28 points at the end of the opening frame.
The offense and defense were clicking on all cylinders in the first half as the Wave held a 41-13 advantage at halftime. The 13 points by the Braves is the fewest surrendered by Tulane in a half since limiting Southern Miss to 12 points in the first half on December 9, 2020.
The Green Wave pushed its advantage to as many as 41 points in the second half before ultimately closing out the victory 84-51 over Alcorn State.
Up next, the Tulane face its first road test as it visits Furman in Greenville, South Carolina, on Friday, November 15. Tipoff between Tulane and the Paladins is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
