
No. 38 Swimming & Diving Sending Three to US Open Championships This Week

NEW ORLEANS – The No. 38 ranked Tulane swimming & diving team will be represented by three qualifiers at the US Open Championships from Dec. 5-7 in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The live stats for the meet can be followed on Meet Mobile, which is a subscription phone-only live stat app. The US Open will also have daily results posted on their website following each day of competition
The preliminaries each day start at 8 a.m. CT with the finals concluding the day beginning at 5 p.m. CT
The finals on Thursday and Friday will be streamed live on the Peacock Network. On Saturday, CNBC will show a tape delayed version of the broadcast starting at 11 a.m.
The Green Wave have a pair competing in the 500 free on Thursday in Lise Coetzee and Varvara Gkiouzepa Petropoulou. Coetzee comes in ranked No. 14 in the event with her entry time of 4:20.81, while Petropoulou is placed 17th with her entry mark of 4:19.93.
Paula Gaya Bisquerra qualified for the 100 breast on Friday. She is ranked No. 24 in the event with her entry mark of 1:02.31. The estimate time for the preliminaries of the event is at 9:05 a.m. CT
Petropoulou competes in her second event at the championships as she had an entry time of 1:58.58 to rank No. 8 in the 200 fly on Saturday. The estimated time for the preliminaries of the event is 9:14 a.m. CT

Following a successful first few weeks of the season, including a strong weekend in Cleveland from Nov. 21-23, the Tulane swim & diving team are currently ranked No. 25 nationally by SwimCloud.
The program amassed 759.24 points overall in the poll and are also the top ranked Division I Mid-Major program in the country and are currently rank No. 1 in the American Athletic Conference (AAC).
In the team's last meet, the Magnus Cup from Nov. 21-23 in Cleveland, the squad finished second overall with 1358.450 points. The team totaled 11 event victories, 17 podium finishes, 34 season bests, 40 lifetime bests and six school records.
The school records were set in the 200 free relay by Lise Coetzee, Olcaytu Hatipoglu, Catherine Russo and Maya Wilson (1:131.58), in the 400 medley relay by Andrea Zeebe, Gwen Shahboz, Russo and Wilson (3:347.67), in the 200 free by Wilson (1:46.74), in the 100 free by Wilson (48.90), in the 50 free by Russo (22.29) and in the 400 free relay by Rafaela Sumida, Hatipoglu, Wilson and Russo.
Head Coach Amanda Caldwell is in her third year leading the program. The team is coming off an outstanding 2023-24 season that resulted in 64 lifetime bests, 31 all-time top-10 school marks, four school records, an AAC individual title, an AAC Freshman of the Year Award, 11 National Invite Championship Qualifiers, a Zone Diver Qualifier and an NCAA qualifier.
The program returns 12 swimmers & divers from last season in Anna Behrman, Emma Brady, Rachel Casebolt, Taylor Cekay, Reese Dunkenberger, Paula Gaya Bisquerra, Olcaytu Hatipoglu, Paige McKenzie, Sydney Mullin, Gwen Shahboz, Ece Tanriverdi and Andrea Zeebe. The squad also is welcoming in 11 newcomers in Layla Allen, Lise Coetzee, Charley Floyd, Phoebe Johnson, Varvara Gkiouzepa Petropoulou, Catherine Russo, Eva Shawver, Rafaela Sumida, Lily Von Herbulis, Kelsey Weddington and Maya Wilson.
Following the competition in North Carolina, Tulane will next send qualifiers to the Open Water Championships on December 15 in Miami, Florida. The team's Open Water qualifiers are Sydney Mullin, Lise Coetzee, Varvara Gkiouzepa Petropoulou, Phoebe Johnson and Layla Allen in the 500 free. Tulane will next be at home on Jan. 25, 2025 for a dual meet against Little Rock. The team wraps up the home schedule and regular season by hosting West Florida on Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m. The 2025 AAC Swimming Championship will be held from Feb. 19-22 in Dallas, Texas at SMU.
