HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana's baseball team scored all of its runs with two outs in an 8-7 win over visiting Tulane Tuesday evening at Alumni Field.
Â
The Lions improved to 12-6 with the victory, while the Green Wave suffered its third-straight one-run defeat to fall to 10-7.
Â
Southeastern designated hitter Jake Killingsworth had the game's biggest hit, a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning off Tulane starter Jake Saum to grab a 5-0 lead for the home team. Right fielder Justin Williams also went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Â
Tulane hit four homers during the game. The first came via a two-run shot from shortstop Marcus Cline in the fourth, followed by solo blasts from left fielder Jackson Linn in the sixth and back-to-backers by third baseman Gavin Schulz and catcher Colin Tuft in the ninth.Â
Â
Schulz also had a two-run double in the second inning in a 3-for-4 evening.
Â
Saum (0-3) took the defeat for the Green Wave, allowing five runs on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. He was succeeded on the mound by Michael Lombardi who was extremely effective, whiffing eight in four innings, while yielding one run on four hits with a walk. Logan Hurd also finished the contest strong with four strikeouts in the eighth and ninth innings with just one hit allowed.
Â
Lakin Polk (4-0) got the win in relief for Southeastern as he struck out six himself in two and two-thirds innings. He gave up a run on two hits with a walk. Jackson Rodriguez nailed down his third save, despite surrendering the two ninth-inning homers. He got the Lions' last seven outs and struck out three with two hits and a walk.
Â
The two teams combined for 28 strikeouts, 16 by the pitching staff of the Green Wave.
Â
Despite the 15 runs scored, the game lasted just two hours, 28 minutes.
Â
Linn's five homers now lead Tulane. On the season, the team has 26 long-balls and has given up just eight.
Â
The Olive and Blue will now turn its attention to four straight games at Greer Field in Turchin Stadium. Tulane will host Pepperdine (4-13) for a three-game series that is set to start Friday at 6. The Green Wave will also host Saint Louis Monday at 6:30 p.m. The Billikens are 15-1 this season, with its only blemish coming in a 6-5 March 1 loss to Le Moyne.
