Cross Earns All-AAC Honors and James Wins Sportsmanship Award

NEW ORLEANS – The American Athletic Conference announced the men's basketball award winners and all-conference teams for the 2023-24 team season on Tuesday with Tulane's Kevin Cross and Sion James each earning honors.

James became the first player to earn the Sportsmanship Award twice after earning the honor last season. The junior serves as The American's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Chair, Tulane's SAAC Co-President, and is a member of the NCAA SAAC.

On the court, James averaged a career-best 13.5 points per game in 30 games including 30 starts during the regular season. The Sugar Hill, Georgia, native tallied double figures in scoring 25 times this season including five games with 20 or more points. James also led the Green Wave in minutes per game (36.7), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.24), and steals (1.63).

Cross garnered third team All-AAC selection for the third consecutive season after leading the Wave in scoring, rebounding, and assists. The senior forward averaged 17.8 points, 7.2 boards, and 4.59 assists in 29 games this season. He ranked in the top 10 in the league in scoring, rebounding, assists, field goal percentage, and free throw percentage.

The Little Rock, Arkansas, product also became the first Tulane player to record back-to-back triple doubles in victories over Furman and Southern earlier this season. Cross earned Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week and AAC Player of the Week for those performances.

Tulane opens the AAC Championship on Thursday against the seven seed North Texas in Fort Worth, Texas. The Green Wave and Mean Green are scheduled to tipoff at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
