
Women’s Basketball Fights To the End In 61-56 Loss To Tulsa

New Orleans – Tulane's women's basketball team (10-19, 3-15 AAC) showed great resolve and fight in falling to Tulsa (23-8, 13-5 AAC) 61-56 on Tuesday evening in Devlin Fieldhouse. The loss was the eighth straight for the program.
The program trailed by 16 midway through the third quarter, 49-33, but never gave up and fought nearly all the back to get to within two, 55-53, with just over five minutes remaining in the game on a jumper from Irina Parau. Despite never taking the lead back, the team also never trailed by more than six points and made the Hurricane earn every basket with a strong brand of tenacious defense.
Parau set career highs in both points with 16 and rebounds with 14 to lead Tulane. She shot 8-for-14 from the field plus had two blocks and a steal. Kyren Whittington recorded 14 points, two assists and a steal. Hannah Pratt chipped in with 12 points, three rebounds, an assist and a block. Amira Mabry totaled four points and seven rebounds. Joy Madison-Key tallied four points, two rebounds and two assists. McKenzie Carter totaled three points, two rebounds and an assist. Marta Galic picked up three points, three rebounds and an assist. Kaylah Rainey led the team with seven assists.

Tulsa was led by Temira Poindexter's 19 points. Delanie Crawford had 16 points. Katia Gallegos also reached double figures with 11 points.
The game featured six lead changes and four tied scores. Tulane shot 38.6 percent from the field (22-for-57), 38.9 percent from three-point range (7-for-18) and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (5-for-6). The team totaled 42 rebounds, 16 assists, three steals and five blocks. Tulane held the advantage in the paint, 30-24, in fast break points, 14-6, and off the bench 19-6.
Tulsa shot 32.4 percent from the field (22-for-68), 28.6 percent from three-point range (10-for-35) and 87.5 percent from the free throw line (7-for-8). The Hurricane recorded 38 rebounds, 14 assists, nine steals and seven blocks.
The game was tied at 12 after the first quarter. Tulsa slowly started to pull away in the second quarter in outscoring Tulane, 21-15, to take the 33-27 lead into the break. The third quarter saw Tulsa edge Tulane 20-18 while Tulane fought back 11-8 in the fourth to make the final margin 61-56.
Next, Tulane plays in the AAC Women's Basketball Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas at Dickies Arena. The program enters the tournament as the No. 14 seed and starts play on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. against the yet to be announced No. 11 seed.

Irina Parau's 16 points and 14 rebounds were career-highs for her in both categories…It was the first time she led the team in scoring this season and the third time in her career…The game was her second double-double of the season and the eighth time this year that she has reached double figures in points…Parau's 14 rebounds was her fifth time in double figures in rebounds this season and the 12th time that she has led the team in rebounding…Amira Mabry was held to four points in the game to snap her 14-game double figure scoring streak…Hannah Pratt's 12 points was her 15th time in double figures this season…Kyren Whittington's 14 points was her 20th game in double figures this season…The current eight-game losing streak is the longest for the program since 1991 when the team fell 11 straight times from Jan. 5 – Feb. 2…The team ended AAC play with a school-record 15 losses in conference play…The loss was the second straight loss to Tulsa after Tulane had won eight in a row from Jan. 8 2020 – Feb. 12 2023…Tulane is now 28-11 all-time against the Hurricane…The program ends the 2023-24 season with an 8-8 home record.
