Cross Country/Track & Field’s Adrian Myers Signs Contract Extension
Mar 7, 2024 | Cross Country, Track & Field
New Orleans – Tulane's Ben Weiner Director of Athletics David Harris announced on Thursday that Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Adrian Myers has signed a contract extension to remain with the University through June 2028.
"Our cross country and track and field teams have enjoyed tremendous success with Coach Myers at the helm," said Harris. "Those programs have seen considerable growth during his tenure, and we look for that to continue under the leadership shown by Adrian and his staff."
The teams have shown strong improvement each season under Myers. The men's cross country team was eighth in the American Athletic Conference in 2021, moved up to fifth in 2022 and placed third in 2023. The women's team earned 11th in 2021, moved up to fourth in 2022 and brought back to Uptown the program's first ever team title in 2023. The women's indoor track and field team improved by four spots from 2022 to 2023 (eighth to fourth) and the women's outdoor program jumped five spots a year ago (11th to sixth). The Women's program finished the 2023 Indoor Track & Field season ranked #34 in the NCAA.
"I want to thank everyone involved in this process and owe them a debt of gratitude," Myers said. "Thank you to our former Athletic Director, Troy Dannen, who initially hired me two and half years ago. Thank you for believing in me to be a good steward over this program and its resources. I especially would like to thank our new Director of Athletics David Harris, for continuing to believe in and support high-level Cross Country and Track & Field at Tulane University. Let's continue to bring hardware back down Ben Weiner Drive.
"Also, I would like to thank President Michael A. Fitts for continuing to trust me with the future of this program and the success of our student-athletes. We have risen the standard and market value of this program across the NCAA. I could not be prouder of everyone who has put blood into the bricks in my time here. Your work and sacrifice has paid off in so many ways, shaping the expectation of our program's future.
"Tulane University is, and will continue to elevate, as a national class Cross Country and Track & Field program. What has been done in just over two years is a testament to the support and resources in place to be great. I want to win, Tulane wants to win and our student-athletes want to win. That's the space I want to be in every day. I look forward to filling trophy cases and rewriting the history of this program in the years ahead. As always, Roll Wave!"
