
Track and Field’s Paula Vaquera Sets the School Record in the 5000m at the Bryan Clay Invitational

Long Beach, California / Azusa, California / Hammond, La.– Paula Vaquera set the school record in the 5,000m at the Bryan Clay Invitational to highlight the action for Tulane's track and field program at three meets on Friday between two states. The program participated in the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, California along with the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California and the Strawberry Relays in Hammond, Louisiana on a very busy day of action. In all, the program had four top-10 school marks and 12 top-10 placings in individual events.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Vaquera ran a 16:20.79 in the 5,000m to better the previous school record of Hanne Lyngstad of 16:30.47 set in 1998. It was also a personal best for her by nearly 42 seconds (17:01.67).
Lily Bell ran the school's fourth-best time with a 17:02.11 to place 20th overall in the women's open 5,000m.
Ryan Adkins recorded the school's fourth-fastest time ever with his 29:55.12 in the men's 10,000m. The time was a personal best for Adkins by 63 seconds and allowed him to finish 10th overall in the event.
Elena Liano-Rengel ran a 2:09.06 in the women's open 800m to move up to eighth on the school's all-time record book. She had previously been 10th in the school record books with a 2:10.33 earlier this season.
At the Beach Invitational, Alex Sharp led the squad as she placed seventh in the women's 5,000m with a time of 17:40.37. Macy Turcotte earned 12th in the same event with an 18:20.10. Lili Grant also placed 15th with an 18:30.25. Cosette Fleury was the team's highest finisher in the pole vault in 28th place with a 3.31m/10'10.24".
At the Strawberry Relays the program had 10 top-10 event marks and were led by Brenda Ellis' fourth place finish in the women's 1500m (4:48.30).
Amanda Soldan earned sixth in the women's 1500m (5:02.26). Chase Cartwright took sixth in the men's 1500m (4:11.95). Adam Aldahir was seventh in the men's 1500m (4:13.17). Francisco Roman III placed 10th in the men's 110m hurdles (17.08). Dekel Regev earned seventh in the men's shot put (12.30m/40'4.25") and 10th in the men's high jump (1.83m/6'00"). Sofia Caruso earned eighth in the women's discus (31.30m/102'8"). Payton Musso was sixth in the women's javelin (31.75m/104'2"). Sofie Groeninger earned sixth in the women's high jump (1.45m/4'9")
Next, the program wraps up competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California on Saturday.
