
Track & Field Competes In Two Meets This Week

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane outdoor track & field program competes in a pair of meets this week as the program sends student-athletes to the Jim Green Track & Field Invitational from April 19-20 in Kentucky at the Outdoor Track and Field Facility on the campus of Kentucky in Lexington. The program also will be represented at the Wake Forest Invitational on April 19 in North Carolina at Kentner Stadium on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston Salem.
The group that is heading to the Jim Green Track & Field Invitational is Roman Schrader (800m), Parker Orlowsky (800m), Tolu Ajayi (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay), Bella Carroll (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay), Alexis Esteves (200m, 400m, 4x100m relay), Laura Fodor (200m, 100m hurdles, high jump, long jump), Alyssa Taylor (200m, 400m), Kaia Todd (200m, 100m hurdles, 4x100m relay, long jump, triple jump), Robyn Larkan (200m, 4x100m relay), Patricija Ozolina (200m, 100m hurdles, 4x100m relay, high jump, long jump), Amanda Soldan (800m), Robyn Larkan (100m hurdles), Cosette Fleury (pole vault), Alyssa Dismuke (shot put, discus), Norah Bice (discus), Kara Schiek (javelin) and Sofie Groeninger (heptathlon)
Tulane will also be represented by Jack Jennings at the Wake Forest Invitational in the 5000m. The event is set to begin at 9 p.m.
Last time out the program competed in a total of four different meets as the program competed in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, the Beach Invitational, the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Strawberry Relays from April 11-13. The team ended up setting a school record, having seven top-10 school marks and 15 top-10 event marks over the course of three busy days of action.
Paula Vaquera set the school record in the 5,000m at the Bryan Clay Invitational to highlight the team's performance at the meet. Vaquera ran a 16:20.79 in the 5,000m to better the previous school record of Hanne Lyngstad set in 1998. It was also a personal best for Vaquera by nearly 42 seconds (17:01.67). She also placed second in the open B portion of the women's 1500m with a 4:29.94. The run ranks her 10th all-time in the school record book at the event.
Illia Kunin's run of 3:44.97 placed him second all-time in the men's record book just ahead of Aaron Gilliam and just behind Amos Kipyegon's run from 1998. Kunin also finished fifth overall in the event among all competitors.
Danna Diaz had a run of 4:26.99 in the women's 1500m. The time placed her in fifth all-time at the school.
Lily Bell ran the school's fourth-best time ever with a 17:02.11 in the women's 5000m.
Ryan Adkins recorded the school's fourth-fastest time ever with his 29:55.12 in the men's 10,000m. The time was a personal best for Adkins by 63 seconds and allowed him to finish 10th overall in the event.
Elena Liano-Rengel ran a 2:09.06 in the women's open 800m to move up to eighth on the school's all-time record book. She also ran a 4:29.98 in the 1500m to rank at No. 11 at Tulane.
The women's 1500m also saw Reese Ragland run a 4:34.14, while Anna Schadel put up a 4:34.66.
In the men's 5000m, Albert Tawil-Brown set a personal best of 14:53.62. In the women's javelin, Kara Schiek placed 30th with a 37.02m/121'5".
At the Beach Invitational, Alex Sharp led the squad as she placed seventh in the women's 5,000m with a time of 17:40.37. Macy Turcotte earned 12th in the same event with an 18:20.10. Lili Grant also placed 15th with an 18:30.25. Cosette Fleury was the team's highest finisher in the pole vault in 28th place with a 3.31m/10'10.24".
At the Strawberry Relays the program had 10 top-10 event marks and were led by Brenda Ellis' fourth place finish in the women's 1500m (4:48.30).
Amanda Soldan earned sixth in the women's 1500m (5:02.26). Chase Cartwright took sixth in the men's 1500m (4:11.95). Adam Aldahir was seventh in the men's 1500m (4:13.17). Francisco Roman III placed 10th in the men's 110m hurdles (17.08). Dekel Regev earned seventh in the men's shot put (12.30m/40'4.25") and 10th in the men's high jump (1.83m/6'00"). Sofia Caruso earned eighth in the women's discus (31.30m/102'8"). Payton Musso was sixth in the women's javelin (31.75m/104'2"). Sofie Groeninger earned sixth in the women's high jump (1.45m/4'9").
During 2022-23 outdoor season, the Tulane women placed sixth overall with 63 points at the AAC Championships. The finish was Tulane's best since 2016. The Tulane men finished eighth during outdoor season with 26 points. The program totaled nine All-Conference selections during outdoor season in Janae Dean (1st – women's 800m), Victoria Robinson (3rd – women's 800m), Kara Steele (3rd – women's triple jump), Mackenzie Callahan (3rd - women's 1500m), Aaron Gilliam (3rd – men's 1500m), Bradley Makuvire (3rd – men's 5,000m), Mackenzie Callahan (2nd – women's 3000m steeplechase), Maren Butler (3rd – women's shot put), Margot Temines (3rd – women's heptathlon). Kristen O'Handley ended the outdoor season by achieving All-American status in the Heptathlon.
Next week the program will again compete in a pair of competitions. The program participates in the Drake Relays from April 24-27 in Des Moines, Iowa. The team will also compete in the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Florida from April 26-27 on the campus of North Florida.
