
Bowling Finishes at No. 15 in NTCA’s Final Rankings

New Orleans – The Tulane University bowling team finished the 2023-24 season ranked No. 15 nationally in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Poll, the organization announced this afternoon.
The Green Wave earned 417 overall points. The team started the season ranked No. 22 in the preseason rankings in October, moved up 10 spots in the second released poll in December, stayed steady at No.12 in the February rankings, moved down a spot to No. 13 in the March poll and finished the campaign ranked No. 15 nationally in the April poll.
Tulane is one of nine teams from Conference USA ranked in the top-25 by the NCAA Coaches in final poll including each of the top three teams in the country. Jacksonville State ranked No. 1, Arkansas State finished second, Youngstown State placed third, Vanderbilt was fifth, Sam Houston State took seventh, Louisiana Tech placed eighth, Stephen F. Austin earned 13th, Tulane was 15th and Valparaiso placed 19th.
The NTCA submitted ballots rank the top-25 programs in the sport of NCAA bowling, Each position has a designated point value, ranging from forty points for first place and one point for 25th place. To be ranked, teams need to equal or surpass the minimum vote criteria, which is one vote for every eight ballots submitted. The actual ranking positions is determined by using the adjusted point standings, which lists in priority order the total points a school has accumulated after the highest and lowest votes are dropped.
On the season, Kristen Derr had the team's most pins at 10,337 and average at 202.6. She also had the highest game on the squad as she rolled a 280 at the Stormin' Blue and White Classic.
Tulane finished the season with an overall record of 63-43 (59.4 winning percentage). The team qualified and competed in the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships from April 18-19 in Kentucky. The program also saw Morgan Gitlitz competed in the Intercollegiate Singles Championships this season.
This year's Tulane roster featured six returners in Gitlitz, Yarelis Alvarez, Sofiia Druchyna, Katharina Mente, Mia Stolakis, Cassidy Williams plus four newcomers in Juanelyz Solla, Emma Fetterman, Kristen Derr and Linnea Holcomb. Stolakis became the first Tulane bowler to ever qualify for the Junior USA Team with her performance at US Team Trials from Jan. 2-7. Derr became the seventh Tulane player to ever earn NTCA All-American accolades with her honorable mention selection this season.
