Volleyball Wraps Up Green Wave Classic With Second Consecutive Shut Out

NEW ORLEANS –Tulane volleyball closed out the Green Wave Classic today with another sweep, defeating the University of Louisiana at Monroe 3-0. Combined with its shut out of Grambling State yesterday, the Green Wave emerges from the tournament with a 2-1 record.Â
Tulane executed their game plan well, working together to defeat ULM efficiently and decidedly. The Green Wave ended its sets 25-22, 25-18, and 25-20, landing on top to end the weekend on top. The second set was especially eventful, with Katherine Crosley providing 7 serves in a row during a dominant streak and the team landing 16 kills.
Sami Jacobs rounded out her weekend as the team leader in kills with another stellar performance, adding 18 to her total to bring it up to 43. She also hit 0.371 and scooped 18 receptions. Over the tournament, Jacobs averaged 4.30 kills per set and hit 0.319, as well as providing 3.70 digs per set.Â
Avery Burks contributed 10 kills and 17 receptions, ending her weekend with 29 kills and 57 receptions. Ava Derbes played a remarkable match, posting a 0.357 hitting percentage from 6 kills.Â
Crosley contributed 18 assists against ULM and averaged 5.20 assists per set over the tournament. Zoe Rachow also set 18 assists, the sophomore bringing her career count to 607 during the match. Â
UP NEXT
Tulane will host another home tournament, the Pelican Invitational, Sept. 19-21. On Friday, Sept. 27, Rice University will visit for a match at 2 p.m.
