Tulane has Seven Selected for 2025 Fall Sailing National Championships
Oct 14, 2025 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS – Seven members of the Tulane University sailing team were selected to compete in the 2025 College Sailing Fall National Championships, the National Selection Committee announced Tuesday.
Â
For the second year in a row Kelly Holthus was named as an automatic qualifier for the Match Race National Championship. He earned one of the six automatic qualifier spots in the field of 10 competitors after leading the Wave to victory as the skipper in the SEISA Match Race Championship.
In the Singlehanded National Championships Tulane will be represented by Ava Anderson, Hamilton Barclay, Oakley Cunningham, Alejo Di Blasi, Tate Christopher, and Matheo Capasso. Anderson and Barclay each earned the automatic conference qualifier for the Women's and Open Singlehanded National Championships by winning the SEISA Singlehanded titles. Cunningham picked up an at large selection for the women's championship while Di Blasi, Christopher, and Capasso each garnered at large bids for the open championship.
The 2025 College Sailing Singlehanded National Championships will be hosted by Old Dominion in Norfolk, Virginia. The championship regatta will take place on Saturday and Sunday, November 8-9.
In Tampa, Florida, on November 15-16 Holthus will lead a crew for the Wave at the College Sailing Match Race National Championship which will be hosted by South Florida.
The National Championship Selection Committees are charged with selecting the most competitive field of At-Large Candidates for the National Championships. To be eligible, candidates must have competed in a corresponding Conference Championship in any ICSA conference. Selectors must honor the finishing order at any respective conference championship; to select the fourth-place sailor in a conference, they must also select the second and third place candidates.
Criteria for selection at the Open Singlehanded and Women's Singlehanded include performances at ICSA Single and Doublehanded regattas throughout each candidate's ICSA career. Non-ICSA events may not be considered, and geographical distribution is also not to be considered. This method is the same for the Match Race selection process, where performances in Match Race and Doublehanded ICSA regattas throughout each candidate's career are considered. Non-ICSA regattas are again not considered for selection. As in every year, the field of candidates was extraordinarily deep, and the committee worked diligently to determine the most competitive field of at-large candidates.
