FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 19 Tulane University bowling team concluded the Bulldog Classic, hosted by No. 9 Louisiana Tech, Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 record on the final day of competition. The Green Wave finished eighth overall in the 16-team event at City View Lanes.
Tulane was seeded ninth after the first two days of qualifying and began the final day with a match-up against the 10th seed, Alabama State. In the first of three rounds of bracket play, held in the best-of-seven Baker format, the Wave earned a 4-0 sweep with games of 202-170, 182-176, 209-150, and 235-145.
The Wave advanced to face No. 8 Sam Houston, and Tulane secured another victory with a 4-2 margin. Tulane won the first two games, 207-203 and 181-136. Sam Houston responded with a 170-169 slim win, but the Wave bounced back to win 190-162. The Bearkats claimed a 213-204 triumph to extend play, but Tulane finished off the match with a 213-171 victory.
This set up a thrilling contest with No. 2 Nebraska, which went the distance with the Wave pushing the Cornhuskers to seven, but Nebraska earned the overall 4-3 win. The Cornhuskers looked likely to sweep out of the gates, however, winning the first three games by scores of 205-191, 269-215, and 224-191. Tulane pushed back, though, winning the next three with scores of 194-193, 211-184, and 200-197. This set up a final contest that Nebraska took, 188-164.
At 8-5 overall for the weekend, Tulane placed eighth. The Wave knocked down 13,036 total pins at a rate of 194.6 per game. All but one of Tulane's losses came against a ranked team, and the Wave picked up three ranked win this weekend with two against top-10 opponents.
After competing in three consecutive weekends, the Wave will get a reprieve next weekend before concluding the fall slate by hosting the Colonial Lanes Classic. Tulane's annual home event takes place November 21-23 at Colonial Lanes in Harahan, Louisiana.
