Green Wave Survives Defensive Battle Over Grambling
Dec 2, 2025 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane men's basketball (6-2) secured its third consecutive win on a pair of free throws in the final seconds by Rowan Brumbaugh to defeat Grambling 65-63 (3-5) inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse Tuesday. The Green Wave forced a season-high 15 turnovers against the Tigers to hold on to victory in the defensive struggle.
Â
With the win, the Wave improved to 4-1 at home on the season and 3-0 all-time against Grambling. The victory also pushed Tulane's record to 34-7 at home under Head Coach Ron Hunter in non-conference play.
Tulane was paced by the trio of Curtis Williams Jr., Rowan Brumbaugh, and Asher Woods each with double figures in scoring. Williams recorded the first double-double of his career finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds while also adding four steals against the Tigers. Brumbaugh matched him with 17 points of his own including the final two free throws of the contest to secure the victory. Woods rounded out the leaders for the Green Wave with 13 points to mark his 48th career game in double digits.
Â
Meanwhile, Josiah Moore proved to be a difference maker on the floor off the bench for the Wave. The sophomore posted seven points, four steals, three boards, and two assists to finish a team-best +9 on the court.
Â
After a slow start by both teams offensively it was the Wave that made the first push building a five-point advantage, 22-17, with 6:08 to play. Tulane reached its largest lead of the first frame at 28-22 on a three by KJ Greene, but Grambling closed the half on a 9-2 run to put the Green Wave down 30-31 at the break.
Â
In the second half Tulane faced its largest deficit of the night at 37-44 with 15:46 remaining in the contest. Moore came into the game moments later to spark an 8-0 run to put the Wave back in front 45-44. Grambling answered to briefly reclaim the lead, but back-to-back buckets from Williams and Moore gave Tulane a three-point advantage, 52-49, with 6:22 on the clock.
Â
The Green Wave continued to maintain the advantage over the next few minutes until the Tigers battled back to tie the game at 63-63 with just over two minutes remaining. After a scoreless two minutes, Brumbaugh earned a trip to the free throw line with only eight second left in the game. The redshirt junior knocked down both free throws to put Tulane in front and the defense locked down Grambling one last time to secure the 65-63 victory.
Â
Next, the Wave will welcome Akron to Uptown on Saturday, December 6. The game is scheduled to tip off at 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
