Big Innings Lead Baseball to 10-4 Victory on Saturday Over Omaha

New Orleans – The Tulane baseball team (2-0) won the second game of the series over Omaha with a dominate 10-4 victory on Saturday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

The Tulane offense struck for three runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings to set the tone in the victory.

Matthias Haas led the charge for the Green Wave with his two hits. The biggest hit of the game, which came off his bat, was a three-run first inning home run. He also added an RBI double in the third inning. Besides Haas, four other Tulane players recorded two hits in Michael Lombardi, Gavin Schulz, Jackson Linn and Jason Wachs. Connor Rasmussen totaled a pair of RBIs on sacrifice flies. The Green Wave offense pounded out 11 hits in the game plus walked six times.

J.D. Rodriguez started for Tulane and went 2.2 innings while surrendering 1 run with two strikeouts on three hits. Blaise Wilcenski (1-0) entered in the third inning and threw 1.2 innings to record his first win of the season. The Green Wave bullpen went 6.2 innings in the contest and allowed just three runs with recording 12 strikeouts. Gavin Smith struck out both batters he faced in his first action since the 2023 season. Tayler Montiel threw a scoreless inning with three strikeouts. Lombardi made his 2025 debut on the mound and threw two innings with a run allowed and four strikeouts. John-Paul Sauer threw a scoreless ninth in his collegiate debut with a pair of punch outs.

The loss went to Omaha's Ben Weber (0-1). Weber started the game for the Mavericks and was tagged for five hits and four runs in three innings. Reliever Maddox Meyer surrendered six runs on five hits in his 1.1 work out of the pen.

Next, Tulane finishes up the series against Omaha starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday

Tulane, after scoring 12 runs in the first game and 10 runs in the second against Omaha, have reached double digits in runs for the first two games of the season for the first time since 2022 against UMass Lowell…That year was also the last time that Tulane swept the season opening series…The Green Wave have only had 10 series sweeps to start the year since 2000 (2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022)…Through the first two games, Tulane's freshmen have accounted for four hits, five runs and six RBIs…With the win the program upped its record to 8-3 all-time against current schools in the Summit League and 6-2 against Division I playing baseball schools from the state of Nebraska.
