TULANE GAME NOTES
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane Baseball, fresh off its 2024 American Athletic Conference championship, will kick off the 2025 season at home with a three-game weekend series against Omaha on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
The two teams will square off Friday at 6:30 p.m., followed by games at 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The games will all be streamed on ESPN+ with Jack Benjamin (pxp) and Joey Brockoff (color) on Friday. The Voice of the Green Wave, Corey Gloor, will call the action in all three games on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH (Friday & Sunday) /Varsity Network App (Saturday) while his radio broadcast will also be simulcast to ESPN+ in the final two games of the series. Airtime for radio for all three games is 15 minutes before first pitch.
On Friday, there will be a team poster, plus a schedule can koozie and a replica AAC Championship ring giveaway to the first 500 fans for each promotion.
Sunday will be Military Appreciation Day with a pre-game Military Fly Over, free Military Coins to the first 50 veterans/active duty members along with discounted tickets for the Military at VetTix
Sunday will also be the first Riptide's Kids Club Day. Kids Club members will receive free admission and there will be a giveaway of collectible Tulane Baseball cards. A postgame autograph session with Will Clements, Trey Cehajic, William Good and Jason Wachs will also be held on the concourse behind home plate.
The Green Wave will start senior Luc Fladda on Friday. The 6-1 lefthander went 5-3 last year in his first season as a member of the Green Wave, sporting an earned run average of 4.77 with 61 strikeouts and 21 walks in 83 innings. He yielded a .281 batting average against.
The Mavericks will counter with a righty, Brayden Curtis, on Friday. The Papillion, Neb. native went 0-4 last season with a 6.84 ERA in 26.1 innings. He posted 28 strikeouts and 22 free passes in 2024.
Tulane will start righty J.D. Rodriguez on Saturday. The junior transfer from Corona, Calif. played at Golden West College last season where he appeared in 20 games with seven starts. He won four games, had four saves and struck out 72 in 74 innings pitched. Â
Omaha will send Ben Weber to the hill for the second game. The Omaha, Neb. native is in his first year with the Mavericks after transferring from Georgia Gwinnett. As a member of the Grizzlies the last two years, Weber went 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 27 innings thrown. He started his collegiate career at Kansas State where he appeared in five games with 12 strikeouts in 9.1 innings pitched while sporting a 12.54 ERA.
On Sunday, the Green Wave will start 6-8 senior righty Trey Cehajic. Cehajic hails from Shreveport, Louisiana and is in his second year with the program. As a junior he worked exclusively out of the bullpen in his 19 appearances. He placed second on the team with four saves while totaling 15 strikeouts in 27.1 innings thrown and a 0-2 record.
Omaha's Sunday starter is slated to be righty C.J. Hood. Hood is a junior transfer from Long Beach State. He made seven starts in his eight appearances for the Dirtbags in 2024 and totaled 34 strikeouts in 28.1 innings pitched with 32 walks and a 6.99 ERA. Hood, a native of Hickman, Neb., began his career at the University of Nebraska in 2022 where he went 2-0 with a 4.26 ERA in relief. Â
The Mavericks went 18-32 overall last season with a 16-13 mark in the Summit League. The program is led by head coach Evan Porter. Porter is in his ninth year in charge at Omaha.
This is the first time that Tulane has played against Omaha on the diamond. The Green Wave do sport a 6-3 all-time record against current schools in the Summit League.
Tulane's baseball team, in a vote of the league's coaches, was picked for third overall with 63 points in the AAC's Preseason Coaches' Poll. The team also saw Luc Fladda, Jacob Moore, Gavin Schulz and senior outfielder Jackson Linn chosen as Preseason All-AAC. DI Baseball previously named Connor Rasmussen as one of the top 10 second baseman in the country, Schultz as one of the top 50 third basemen in the country, Linn as one of the top 100 outfielders in the country, Fladda as one of the top 150 starting pitchers in the country and Michael Lombardi and Moore were named two of the top 100 relief pitchers in college baseball.
Tulane is fresh off a second straight NCAA Regional, 36 wins, and becoming the first program in AAC history to win back-to-back tournament championships (which includes 6 straight AAC tournament wins). The historic year over year turnaround was the first time since 1998-99 that the program has been back-to-back champions. Tulane has been to consecutive trips to the regionals for the first time since 2015-16. A win in the Corvallis Regional secured Tulane's first victory in a regional since 2016. Additionally, the program won nine weekend series, won the Pelican Cup, earned an 8-4 record against teams in Louisiana, had five all conference players with four more being selected in the June MLB draft. The four drafted players were good for third-most by a non-power conference school.
Following this weekend against Omaha, Tulane keeps the homestand going and host UNO on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the first game of the three-game series for the Pelican Cup. The promotions for the contest against the Privateers include Double Play Tuesday (2 for 1) and a free beverage bat to the first 250 fans. The Green Wave schedule this season features thirty-five home games in Greer Field at Turchin Stadium while only going on the road for twenty-one games. Tulane is set to visit a total of six different states this season with games in California, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, North Carolina, and Tennessee. This schedule will also include 2024 NCAA Tournament participants Nicholls, Southern Miss, and East Carolina.
