Tulane Drops Road Bout at Rice

HOUSTON – Tulane men's tennis fell in its first match of the weekend on the road against No. 71 Rice 4-2 on Friday. Weather ultimately moved the match inside and shortened competition to just singles play.
With the loss the Wave dropped to 5-12 overall and 1-4 against American Athletic Conference opponents. Meanwhile, the 71st-ranked Owls improved to 11-8 on the year.
Rice jumped out to the early advantage against the Green Wave as Tulane dropped the single points on courts six and two to fall behind 2-0. Tulane was unable to flip the momentum in its favor losing on courts five and four which clinched the match victory for the Owls.
After Rice had secured the win, Luka Petrovic and Alec Gaudin helped the Wave put a dent in the deficit. Gaudin bounced back after losing his first set to pick up the win on court three, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Petrovic then followed with a come from behind win of his own on court one (6-7 [3], 6-3, 6-2) to secure Tulane's second point of the match.
Up next, Tulane will travel up to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to face the 59th-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Sunday. The match between the Wave and Tulsa is set to start at 12:30 p.m. and fans will be able to watch live HERE.
