
Wave Leads Field in Tulane Classic after Round One

NEW ORLEANS – Senior Gabriella Gilrowski led the way as Tulane golf landed at the top of the standings after the opening round of the Tulane Classic presented by Chad Brownstein on Sunday at English Turn Golf & Country Club. Gilrowski carded a 69 (-3) in the first round to help the Green Wave hold the top spot in the field with a 294 (+6) as a team.
The opening round 69 (-3) by Gilrowski put the senior in second overall just one stroke behind the tournament leader Josefin Widal of LSU. The Carmel, Indiana, native led all players with six birdies through the first 18 holes of the tournament. She also posted the best score on par 4s averaging 3.5 strokes to finish five-under on those holes Sunday.
Francesca Pompa was the next player on the leaderboard for Tulane at the end of the first round. Pompa carded a 72 (E) in her first 18 holes of the tournament to sit in a tie for sixth overall in the field.
Next up on the leaderboard for Tulane was Cristina Albertazzi who finished tied the opening day tied for 14th overall after recording a 75 (+3).
Rounding out the starting lineup for the Wave were Matilde Innocenti and Tonka Zacharovska. Innocenti landed tied for 29th in the field after shooting a 78 (+6) in herr first round while Zacharovska ended the day tied for 55th after carding an 84 (+12).
The trio of Ruhee Pandit, Lynne Zhang, and Sophia Yi-Ju Chen hit the course competing as individuals for the Green Wave. Pandit posted a 76 (+4) in her first round to land tied for 17th overall. Zhang finished the day with an 80 (+8) to sit tied for 42nd while Chen finished tied for 49th after shooting an 82 (+10).
The second round of the Tulane Classic presented by Chad Brownstein will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning from English Turn Golf & Country Club.
