Green Wave Set for 2025 American Outdoor Track and Field Championships

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane track and field team will look to carry over its success from the indoor conference championships as competition in the American Outdoor Track and Field Championships begins Thursday in Charlotte, North Carolina. The championship meet will be hosted by Charlotte at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center from Thursday to Saturday, May 15-17.
The Green Wave placed 11th on the women's side and 10th on the men's side of the AAC Outdoor Championships last spring in San Antonio. Zander Dunbar provided the highlight of the 2024 championships for the Wave as he won the individual championship in the men's 800m with a time of 1:50.24.
2025 American Outdoor Track and Field Championships

The meet will open on Thursday with competition for the heptathlon at 9:30 a.m. CT followed by the decathlon and field events at 10 a.m. CT. Both the men's and women's hammer throw and javelin will complete trials and finals competition on the Thursday. Action on the track will begin at 5:30 p.m. CT with trials for the 1500m, 200m, and 400m hurdles. The final events on Thursday will be the finals for the men's and women's 10,000m.
On Friday competition will start with the remaining events of the decathlon beginning at 9 a.m. CT followed by the rest of the events in the heptathlon at 10 a.m. CT. Field events will pick up at 2 p.m. CT starting with women's long jump followed by women's shot put and pole vault, and men's long jump and shot put. Those field events will also complete trials and finals competition on Friday. On the track races will begin at 4:25 p.m. CT and will include the trials for the women's 100m hurdles, men's 110m hurdles, 800m, 400m, and 100m. The finals for the men's and women's 3000m steeplechase will conclude the action on Friday evening.
Saturday will begin on the field at 1:30 p.m. CT with the trials and finals of men's and women's high jump, triple jump, and discus as well as the men's pole vault. The finals on the track will start at 3:30 p.m. CT with the 400m relays followed by the 1500m, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 400m, 100m, 800m, 400m hurdles, 200m, 5000m, and 1600m relays. The AAC Championships award ceremony will begin at 7:05 p.m. CT.
LAST OUTING
Senior Illia Kunin put a stamp on the final weekend of the regular season for Tulane as he broke the program record in the 1500m at the LSU Invitational. Kunin posted a time of 3:40.25 to beat the record held by Amos Kipyegon (3:40.51) since 1998 and take third place in the event.
The Green Wave picked up six other top-five performances across the weekend competing at the LSU Invitational and the East Coast Relays. Wondu Summa picked up the only event championship for the Wave winning the 300m steeplechase at the LSU Invitational. Meanwhile, Dorcas Naibei finished fifth in the 1500m and Zander Dunbar took fourth in the 800m at LSU.
In Jacksonville, Florida, at the East Coast Relays Tulane added the other three top-five finishes. Competing in the field events Sofie Groeninger placed third in shot put and Kaia Todd landed fourth in the triple jump. Over on the track Lee Harris finished fourth in the 100m.
