New Orleans, LA - The Tulane Green Wave cross country programs, under the direction of Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Adrian Myers, are set to launch their 2025 season this Friday night at the Battle of New Orleans, held at Lake Oaks Park in a meet that is being hosted by both Tulane and the University of New Orleans. Both Tulane teams enter the race with high hopes, national recognition, and a determined spirit to build on their recent successes.
Led by Bernard Cheruiyot, the Tulane men's team aims to continue their upward trajectory. Cheruiyot, the 2024 American Conference Runner of the Year, played a pivotal role in helping the Green Wave finish 28th at the NCAA Championships last season — the program's first team appearance in 25 years. His leadership and experience are expected to be keys as Tulane challenges regional and national rankings once again.
Joining Cheruiyot in the Tulane men's lineup are 12 runners including Sam Cohen, Zander Dunbar, Juan Giron, Silas Kiptanui, Henry Hammel, Illia Kunin, Paul James Pam, Daniel Reza, Tommy Rice, Gilbert Rono, Roman Schrader, and Jalen St. Fort. The men's team is ranked No. 2 in the South Central Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) and holds a national ranking of No. 25 also by the USTFCCCA in the preseason poll, underscoring their status as an emerging formidable force.
On the women's side, the team is led by Blezzin Kimutai, the 2024 American Conference Freshman of the Year. Kimutai's impressive third-place finish at regionals secured her a spot at nationals, and her leadership will be vital as the women's team strives for continued success.
The women's squad's runners in the event includes Maria Alduan, Eliza Brand, Janae Dean, Allison Hall, Haley Harper, Elena Liano-Rengel, Dorcas Naibei, Jasper Newton, Reese Ragland, Dana Rojas Vazquez, and Alex Sharp. Like their male counterparts, the women's team is ranked No. 2 regionally by the USTFCCCA, reflecting their strong potential.
