
Cross Country Sweeps American Weekly Honors

New Orleans, LA – Tulane's cross country teams swept the first week of honors by the American Conference as Bernard Cheruiyot was named the Men's Athlete of the Week and Dorcas Naibei took home the Women's Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Cheruiyot won the individual crown at the Battle for New Orleans on Friday in the team's first race of the season with a time of 14:08.53 in the 5K. His time is the second-fastest ever recorded at the event behind his own time from last season (14:00.1) and is in second place at the event all-time by nearly 27 seconds. He won the race by nearly 20 seconds over his teammate. His performance led Tulane to the team title with 17 total points and an average time of 14:27.3. It was also the second straight year that Tulane's men's team has won the team title.
Naibei won the individual crown at the Battle for New Orleans on Friday in the team's first race of the season with a time of 13:31.12 in the 4K. Her time is the fifth-fastest ever recorded at the event and let the Tulane women to the team title with 18 points and an average run time of 13:42.0
