Sep 20, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball won its third consecutive match to go undefeated in the Pelican Invitational and remain unbeaten at home defeating Alabama State 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Green Wave dominated the Hornets from start to finish to improve to 6-0 inside the friendly confines of Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse this season.
With the win, the Wave improved to 8-3 this season and secured its third-straight sweep over Alabama State in program history.
The duo of Avery Burks and Ava Derbes paced the offensive charge for the Green Wave each tallying double digit kills. Burks led all players with 15 kills to go with 10 digs marking her fifth match this season with double figures in both categories. Derbes followed with 10 kills of her own to notch back-to-back matches with at least 10.
Once again Zoe Rachow set up the offense for Tulane as she recorded a match-high 39 assists while also adding seven digs and a pair of kills.
On the defensive side of the net the Wave had two players join Burks with double figures in digs. Dayla Ortiz led the team with 12 while Annabelle He added 10.
The Green Wave hit the court firing on all cylinders in the opening set rolling out to a quick 7-1 advantage. Alabama State briefly chipped into Tulane's lead, but it was short lived as the Wave pushed its advantage out to 20-12 before clinching the first set 25-15.
Tulane kept its foot on the gas in the second set building an early 10-5 lead over the Hornets. The advantage eventually reached double digits as the Wave cruised to take the second set 25-13.
In the third set the Green Wave jumped out to the initial advantage again holding a 16-5 lead before Alabama State began to fight back. The Tulane lead was cut down to five points for a moment, but the Wave maintained its cushion to ultimately win the set 25-20 and secure the 3-0 sweep over the Hornets.
