Green Wave Sweeps Past Bulldogs

NEW ORLEANS โ Tulane volleyball (3-2) grabbed its third consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon as it swept Louisiana Tech (3-3) 3-0 in the Green Wave Classic. The Wave used a balance attack offensively with six players recording multiple kills to earn its third straight victory over the Bulldogs.
With the win, the Green Wave improved to 3-2 so far this season and including 2-0 at home in the Green Wave Classic. The victory also moved Tulane to 9-2 all-time against Louisiana Tech.
Junior Avery Burks continued her strong start to the season as she led all players with 13 kills. The Wave ended the three-set sweep of the Bulldogs with six total players tallying multiple kills. The freshman duo of Lauryn Mack and Maddy McLin posted nine and five kills, respectively. Meanwhile, Ava Derbes collected six and Sabrina Skyers added five.
Zoe Rachow paced the team in assists as she recorded 35 to go with a pair of kills and two service aces. McLin also added a team-high three service aces in the match.
Defensively, Rachow was joined by Dayla Ortiz as the only players with double-digit digs. Rachow finished with 13 to lead the way while Ortiz posted 10.
The Green Wave was on the attack from the first serve jumping on the Bulldogs with the first four points of the match. Tulane extended its lead to five points in the first set before Louisiana Tech began to battle back. After the Bulldogs tied the score at 9-9 the Wave answered with a 9-3 scoring run and never looked back going on to take the first set 25-19.
Early in the second set Louisiana Tech tried to flip the momentum by taking the initial lead, but eventually the Green Wave made a push with five straight points to climb in front 13-10. Tulane never relinquished the lead the remainder of the set winning 25-19 again to take a 2-0 advantage.
The two teams went back and forth to open the third set exchanging the lead four times until Tulane finally took a two-point advantage at 12-10. The Bulldogs didn't let the Wave pull away initially as the set reached a tie at 17-17 before Tulane called a timeout. Louisiana Tech got the first point after the timeout, but the Green Wave was quick to answer with an 8-1 run including five-straight to close the set. The Wave ultimately won the third set 25-19 to claim the 3-0 sweep over the Bulldogs.
UP NEXT
Tulane close out the Green Wave Classic in Uptown with a matchup against Southern on Sunday afternoon. The Green Wave and the Jaguars will square off at 4 p.m. inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
