Green Wave Concludes Competition at Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tulane indoor track and field program wrapped up the second and final day of competition Saturday in the Vanderbilt Invitational at the at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility. Multiple Green Wave athletes secured top-10 placements in their respective events as a pair recorded top-10 marks for the program's record book.
In the shot put, Sofie Groeninger threw a 13.98 to record the sixth-best mark in program history. She placed fifth in the event. In the 3,000 meters, Petra Dos Santos ran a 9:23.88 for the fourth-best time in program history as she finished third overall in the event behind a pair of Tennessee runners.
In total, seven Tulane athletes secured top-10 placements in their respective competitions. Alongside her impressive mark in the 3,000 meters, Dos Santos ran a 4:52.75 in the women's mile to place 10th. In the men's mile, Bernard Cheruiyot posted a 4:03.34 to place fourth. Presley Wolfe tied for fourth in the women's pole vault invite with her mark of 3.85 meters. Adding to the top-10 totals was Elena Liano-Rengel in the women's 800 meters. Her time of 2:11.23 secured a seventh-place result. In the men's 800 meters, her counterpart Samuel Cohen placed ninth with a time of 1:53.06.
Zaria Parker advanced to the semifinals of the 60 meters, posting a time of 7.57 in the prelims before running a 7.61 in the semifinals to place ninth, missing out on the finals.
Adding to the Wave's top-10 finishes is the women's 4x400 team of Marissa Gordon, Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas, Liano-Regel, and Jasper Newton. They recorded a time of 3:52.16 to finish eighth.
Tulane will be off next weekend before returning to action on January 30 and 31 with a split weekend of competition. The Wave will compete in both the Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, and the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Massachusetts.
