
Most Strikeouts in a Game in 54 Years Leads Baseball To 6-2 Win Over LMU

LOS ANGELES – The Tulane baseball team (2-1) struck out 19 Lions in a 6-2 series clinching victory over Loyola Marymount (1-2) on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 15, at Page Stadium. The 19 strikeouts are tied for the third-most in school history and the most for the program since 1972 when a school-record 21 strikeouts were achieved.
Jack Brafa (1-0) threw two innings of scoreless innings of relief with six strikeouts to earn the victory. Jack Frankel started the game for Tulane and threw the first four innings with five strikeouts. Sam Larson struck out six in 2.1 innings of relief. Jude Abbadessa closed it out for the program with a pair of strikeouts in 0.2 innings thrown.
Eight different Tulane players recorded a hit in the game. Tye Wood had a home run and drove in two runs plus walked. Hugh Pinkney tallied a pair of runs on his two-run blast and walked. Jason Wachs had a hit, an RBI and a run scored. Kaikea Harrison had a hit and an RBI plus a walk. Nolan Nawrocki had a hit. Nate Johnson tallied a pinch hit single. Tanner Chun scored a pair of runs, was hit by a pitch and had a hit.
The loss was taken by Avery Laine (0-1) who allowed four runs in five innings.
LMU scored first as Andrew Mhoon singled to centerfield in the fourth.
The Green Wave broke through in a big way with a pair of two-run home runs in the fifth inning. Pinkney started the rally with his blast to right and was followed by a two-run home run from Wood also to right field.
Tulane added an insurance run, 5-1, in the eighth inning as Haas plated Chun with a single.
Wachs hit his first home run of the season to add another tally to the lead, 6-1, for program in the ninth.
The Lions would not go quietly in the ninth as Mhoon drove in his second run of the game on a single to score Zion Williams.
Next, Tulane takes on No. 2 UCLA on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT
