LOS ANGELES - The Tulane baseball team (2-2) lost the team's final game on the California road trip to No. 2 / No. 1 UCLA (3-1) by a 13-5 margin on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Green Wave led 2-0 after the top of the first and tied the score at four all after three innings, but were outscored 9-1 the rest of the way.

Blaise Wilcenkski (0-1) surrendered a pair of runs on three hits in two innings of relief to take the loss. J.D. Rodriguez started for Tulane and allowed four runs (one earned) in an inning plus. Tom Vincent was the team's third reliever. He allowed four runs in 1.1 innings worked on three hits. Jake Toporek threw two effective innings out of the bullpen with one hit and one run allowed with a strikeout. Michael Devenney surrendered a pair of runs and had a strikeout in his inning of work. Julius Ejike-Charles closed it out for Tulane by getting the final out for the pitching staff in the eighth.

Jason Wachs led the offense charge with two doubles and two RBIs. Nolan Nawrocki also had run-scoring double. Tanner Chun knocked in a run with a single. Johnny Elliott hit his first Tulane home run as well.

Zach Strickland (1-0) earned the win for UCLA with three scoreless innings of relief.

Tulane jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the opening inning on a two-run double from Wachs to plate Harrison and Wood.

UCLA cut the deficit in half the bottom of the opening inning on a solo home run from Roch Cholowsky.

The Bruins took the lead in the bottom of the second on a Cashel Dugger RBI single followed later in the frame by a two-RBI single by Mulivai Levu.

Tulane tied the score with a pair of runs in the third on a double by Nawrocki to score Wachs followed by a two-out single from Chun to score Nawrocki.

UCLA took their second lead of the game in the bottom of the frame on a two-run home run from Will Gasparino.

Cholowsky extended the lead to four runs, 8-4, with his two-run home run in the fourth.

The Bruins put a two-spot on the board in the fifth on a run scoring wild pitch to plate Gasparino and a single by Levu to extended the advantage to 10-4.

The Green Wave got a run back to start the seventh on a home run by Elliott to close the margin to 10-5.

The Bruins added a tally to the lead, 11-5, in the seventh on a bloop single to right by Roman Martin.

Gasparino finished off the scoring for UCLA with a two-run home run in the eighth inning to make the final margin 13-5.

Next, Tulane travels back home to open the home season against Harvard from Feb. 20-22. The game times are 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.
