Marshall Secures American Freshman of the Week
Feb 16, 2026 | Women's Basketball
IRVING, Texas – The American Conference announced its weekly women's basketball honorees this afternoon with Tulane's Mecailin Marshall earning freshman of the week recognition for games played February 9-15.
This is Marshall's third American Freshman of the Week honor this season and her first since December 1. This is the fifth such award for the Green Wave on the campaign with Shiloh Kimpson last claiming the nod on January 19.
Marshall, a native of Lubbock, Texas, averaged 19.5 points per game over a pair of contests. Her scoring clip tied for fifth in the conference for the week. The rookie delivered a career-high 34 points last Tuesday against East Carolina, the highest point total in a game by a Tulane freshman since at least 1999. It was also the highest point total by a Wave player coming off the bench this century. Her 34 points are the sixth most in a game by a freshman across the nation this season, and it's the highest output by an American Conference freshman. Against the Pirates, Marshall owned over half of Tulane's total field goals with 11 to the team's 20. She put home four three-pointers and shot 8-of-9 at the charity stripe.
From the free throw line, Marshall was 10-of-11 overall on the week for a 90.9 percentage. This is the highest free throw percentage by a player in the conference for the week with at least 10 attempts. On the week, Marshall shot 42.9 percent from the field and 33.3 percent beyond the arc.
Tulane is 8-16 on the season with a 3-9 league record. The Green Wave remains on the road tomorrow for the first of back-to-back contests against Memphis. Tip-off against the Tigers is set for 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night, and the teams will rematch two days later in New Orleans at 6:30 p.m. Tomorrow's match-up is the make-up game of the previously postponed contest from January 27. Both games will stream on ESPN+ and can be heard on WRBH 88.3 FM and through the Varsity Network App.
