
No. 17 Tulane Opens TNBA Open at 3-2

BATON ROUGE, La. – At All Star Lanes Friday, the No. 17 Tulane bowling team posted a 3-2 record to place in fifth after day one of the TNBA Open. The Green Wave began the day with three-straight victories in the event hosted by The National Bowling Association and Jackson State.

In the eight-team field, Tulane is fifth after the opening day of competition, which saw each team bowl five sets of five Baker matches. The Wave totaled 4,553 pins alongside a 3-2 record.

Tulane opened the day against Alabama State, winning 959-840. Game scores were 175-170, 244-166, 181-167, 183-181, 176-156.

A tight contest against Southern followed, as the Wave edged the Jaguars 969-967. After winning 176-166, Tulane dropped the next three matches by scores of 181-192, 176-211, and 179-207. Needing a big final match, the Wave delivered with a score of 257 while the Jaguars rolled just a 191.

Tulane carried the momentum into a contest against Jackson State, and the Wave once more held a tight victory by a score of 877-873. Tulane won the opening match 170-154, but the Tigers responded with a 201-163 win. The Wave hit back with a 170-149 triumph, followed by a 190-179 win. Jackson State won the last match 190-184, but it was not enough to surpass Tulane's total score.

Competition picked up from there as Tulane's final two opponents were the only other ranked squads in the tournament. First up was a match-up against No. 14 Sam Houston, who won 1,043-916. Though Tulane started strong with a 204-194 margin, the following games were 180-220, 146-267, 174-191, 212-171.

The final match of the day was against No. 23 Central Missouri, who claimed a 908-832 win. Tulane again won the first game 180-157, but the remaining scores were 155-177, 167-212, 151-206, 179-156.

Action will continue tomorrow with five traditional matches on the schedule. This will conclude the qualifying portion of the event ahead of Sunday's bracket rounds.
