Baseball Drops Middle Game of Conference Series to ECU, 9-6

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (18-18, 5-6 American) lost the middle game of the three-game conference series to ECU (22-13-1, 7-4 American) on Saturday night, April 11, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
After being down 6-2 in the seventh inning, Tulane rallied to tie the game with four runs heading to the eighth only to see the Pirates put together their own late rally with a three-spot in the top of the frame in the 9-6 victory..
Jacob Moore (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing an unearned run in his inning. Jake Toporek started for Tulane and allowed two runs in four innings with five strikeouts. Jude Abbadessa allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in 1.1 innings as the first man out of the bullpen. LuisPablo Navarro allowed a run in his inning of work. Sam Larson surrendered two runs (one earned) in his 0.2 of an inning with a strikeout. Julis Ejike-Charles threw a scoreless ninth with a strikeout to finish the game for Tulane.
Matthias Haas led the offense with two hits, a run scored and three RBIs. Jason Wachs had a pair of hits plus he drew a walk and scored a run. Trent Liolios totaled a pair of hits and knocked in a run. Jack Johnson scored two runs to go along with a hit, a walk, and an RBI. Johnny Elliott had a hit and a run scored. Nate Johnson recorded a hit and an RBI. Tye Wood totaled a run scored and a hit. Hugh Pinkney totaled a hit off the bench.
ECU's Joseph Webb earned the win after he pitched out of the seventh. Sean Jenkins recorded his sixth save of the season with an unblemished ninth. Ethan Norby started for ECU and struck out 11 while allowing five runs in 6.2 innings.
Tulane started the scoring with a pair of runs, 2-0, in the second inning on a Jack Johnson double to drive in Elliott followed by a Nate Johnson single.
The Pirates tied the game up, 2-2, in the fourth inning on a Lashley single followed by a two-out base hit by Austin Irby.
The Pirates took the lead, 6-2, on a grand slam from Michael Kalinich.
The Green Wave fought all the way back and tied the game, 6-6, in the seventh on a three-run double from Haas followed by an RBI single from Liolios.
ECU took the lead back in the top of the eighth on a pass ball with a runner on third followed by an RBI single from Colby Wallace that was misplayed in the outfield to allow a second run to score on the play to make the margin and final score 9-6.
Next, Tulane plays the rubber game of the series against the Pirates on Sunday, April 12, starting at 1 p.m.
