Darryl LaBarrie joined the Tulane men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in the summer of 2023.
In his first few months with the program, LaBarrie helped coach the Green Wave to the bronze medal in the 2023 World University Games representing the United States in Chengdu, China. The team finished 5-1 at the games and led all teams in two-point field goal percentage (59%) and tied for the top overall field goal percentage (46%).
Before moving the Uptown, LaBarrie was serving as the Associate Athletic Director for BIA Charter School in Norcross, Georgia, in 2022. He led the charge at the school to develop the entire athletic program from the ground up and helped coach the school’s inaugural basketball team.
Prior to his development of the BIA Charter School athletic program, he worked as an assistant coach for the Ontario Clippers, the G-League affiliate of the Los Angeles Clippers from 2020-22. LaBarrie helped coach the team to its first playoff appearance and the Western Conference Finals during his tenure. He was also instrumental in the development of two players that earned two-way NBA contracts.
From 2018-21 LaBarrie served as the Director of Scouting for SUVTV where he hired and managed 10 regional scouts, prepared scouting reports for more than 25 Division I NCAA programs and consulted with multiple NBA programs on grassroots talent.
In his second stint with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach from 2016-18. During his tenure, LaBarrie helped the Yellow Jackets reach the NIT finals in 2017 finishing with 21 victories.
Before returning to Georgia Tech, LaBarrie spent five seasons on Head Coach Ron Hunter’s staff as the Associate Head Coach at Georgia State. While working under Coach Hunter, he helped the Panthers win two Sun Belt Championships and reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2015. He also assisted in the development of three-time All-American and 2015 NBA first round draft pick R.J. Hunter.
In his first stint at Georgia Tech, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Yellow Jackets helping the program reach the second round of the 2010 NCAA tournament in his first year. He also assisted in the development of future NBA Champion Iman Shumpert who earned All-ACC Second Team and ACC All-Defensive Team before being drafted in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft.
LaBarrie served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 2007-09 at East Carolina. In his two seasons at ECU, LaBarrie helped the Pirates produce the top two three-point shooting seasons in school history and ranked first or second in Conference USA in that category both years.
His coaching journey began as a graduate assistant at Georgia Tech in 2004-05 before becoming an assistant coach for one season at Campbell.
A native of Decatur, Georgia, LaBarrie played two years at Georgia Tech where he helped the Yellow Jackets reach the 2001 NCAA Tournament. He began his collegiate playing career at Florida A&M where he earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team honors as a freshman before transferring to Georgia Tech.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech in 2001 and added his master’s degree in sports administration from Georgia State in 2005.
LaBarrie and his wife, Aisha, are the parents of three daughters, Sydney, Kai and Diarra.
