NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane (10-11, 3-7) volleyball team was led by a flawless Lacey Vicknair attack and a strong defense in their 3-0 sweep of Conference USA rival Southern Miss (12-12, 3-7) on Friday evening.
The win snapped a three match Tulane losing streak and marked the first Green Wave win over the Golden Eagles in two years. Last season, USM defeated Tulane in all three matches played between the teams and took the first meeting of the 1999 season as well.
Vicknair was the Wave's fearless leader as she recorded a match and career 17 kills and zero errors in Tulane's 15-7, 15-13, 15-4 win over Southern Miss. Vicknair's .708 hitting percentage was accompanied by a match high seven blocks. Kim Sentmore recorded a match high 15 digs.
For the Golden Eagles, Carla Bulla put down 11 kills and 10 digs, the only double-double performance of the match.
Up next, Tulane plays DePaul on Friday, Oct. 29 in Fogelman Arena at 7 p.m.
