NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Sterling Davis scored 17 points and Tulane built and early lead it never relinquished in a 73-62 victory over Alabama-Birmingham Sunday night.
Tulane (13-4, 3-3 Conference USA) led 20-6 after an early 14-0 run and kept UAB at arms length the rest of the way.
Trailing 34-23 at halftime, UAB (10-6, 3-2) played point-for-point with Tulane in the final frame but failed to gain ground because of poor shooting, especially from long range. UAB hit only 34.4 percent of its shots from the filed for the game and shot 5-for-18 from 3-point range.
Eric Holmes, who finished with a team-high 25 points for UAB, made all five of his team's 3-pointers, but also missed six. No other Blazer scored in double figures.
Dylan Osean added 14 points for Tulane, while Ledaryl Billingsley scored 13 on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. Morris Jordan had 11 for the Green Wave.
Tulane turned the ball over 22 times, compared to only 13 by UAB. But the Green Wave made its shots count, hitting more than 55 percent for the game.
Tulane improved to 9-1 at home this season, while the Blazers remained winless on the road.
