TUCSON, Ariz. - The Tulane (5-6) baseball team was swept by Arizona (13-8), as the Wildcats defeated the Wave 8-5 on Sunday.
The last team to sweep the Wave was Indiana in 1997 as they took three from Tulane in Turchin Stadium.
Tulane held a 2-1 heading into the third but a Wildcat six run inning gave them a 7-2 advantage. With two men on base in the fourth, Tulane's Steve Shirley hit his first home run of the season, a shot into center, and put the Wave within two. The Wildcats secured an 8-5 three scoring a run on a Tulane shortstop error.
Rob Shabansky (1-0) recorded his first win since 1998 while Tony Milo got his second save of the year.
The losing pitcher for Tulane was Dan O'Gara (0-2) who went just 2 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs on eight hits.
Tulane travels to Baton Rouge to take on LSU on Wednesday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m.
