Tulane Baseball Downs Rutgers, 7-4

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane's Nick Bourgeois hit a two run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to boost the Wave to a 7-4 win over Rutgers on Saturday.
Rutgers scored first in the third innings putting one run on the board, but Tulane answered with three runs in the bottom of the innings, two off a Mickey McKee single to center. Once the Wave took the lead they never looked back and outscored the Scarlet Knights 4-3. Rutgers came within one in the top of the eighth but Bourgeois solidified the 7-4 Wave win.
Tulane starter Barth Melius picked up his first win of the year as he went 7 plus innings and struck out 4. Brandon Belanger got his seventh save of the year.
At the plate, Bourgeois went 1-for-3 with his first home run of his Tulane career and a pair of RBI. James Jurries was 3-for-4 with one RBI and a double.
For Rutgers, Buddy Gallagher got his first loss of the season after giving up five runs in six innings.
The teams square off on Sunday at Turchin Stadium. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
