
Tulane Baseball Falls To LSU, 21-6

METAIRIE, La. - The Tulane baseball team trailed LSU by one run after five innings, but a Tiger 12 run sixth sent them on their way to a 21-6 win over the Green Wave Wednesday evening.
The 10,990 fans assembled at Zephyr Field are a Zephyr's Collegiate Challenge record crowd and the second highest number of people to attend a baseball game at that venue.
The game was tight after five innings as the Wave trailed the Tigers 5-4, but LSU unleashed the bats and put up 12 runs in the sixth to secure the win. LSU out scored the Wave 4-2 over the last three innings defeating the Wave 21-6.
Tulane Steve Shirley recorded a team high two RBI and was 1-for-4 on the evening. James Jurries, Matt Groff and Nick Herz each sent in runs for the Wave.
LSU's Brad Cresse was 4-for-6 with eight RBI and two three run home runs. Mike Fontenot scored a gmae high four runs.
Tiger's Trey Hodges improved to 3-2 as he went 4 1/3 innings.
Losing pitcher Barth Melius went five plus innings gave up eight runs and struck out six. Steven Blades pitched the final 3 2/3 innings for the Wave, giving up four runs and striking out two.
Tulane hosts Conference USA rival UNC Charlotte for a three game series beginning Friday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
