
Baseball Defeats UNO 7-3

METAIRIE, La. -- The Tulane (30-16-1) baseball team extended a nine game double digit hit streak as they defeated cross town rival UNO (26-19) 7-3 Wednesday evening.
Tulane's Barth Melius (4-4) threw his third complete game of the season as he held the Privateers scoreless through the final five innings and picked up his fourth win of the season. Melius scattered nine hits gave up three runs, none earned, and struck out six.
The Green Wave took an early 3-0 in the second, but the Privateers scored three unanswered runs to even it up at three runs apiece after four innings. A three run fifth gave the Wave a lead it would not relinquish. Tulane added a final run in the sixth to give them the 7-3 win.
The seven runs scored by the Wave is a season high against UNO and evened the 2000 series at 2-2.
Tulane's Jay Heintz and Beau Hearod had similar performances as they both went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI.
For UNO Matt Matejcek was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
The losing pitcher was UNO's Rory Shanks (2-4) who went 4 2/3 innings gave up six runs.
Tulane travels to Memphis, Tenn., for a weekend series with Conference USA rival Memphis. The first game is Friday at 6:30 p.m.
